Family (dogs too)

One of the most rewarding parts of being the photographer in my family is getting pictures of people I love. Of course that also comes the role of referee and camera-man for all impromptu family portraits, but that’s not such a steep price considering that in exchange there is always a sibling willing to become a model whenever I ask in exchange for getting some good pictures. This is especially great when I want to experiment with a new lighting idea and need a human subject that is willing sit, very bored, for 5 minutes…. well, maybe more like 45 minutes – while I change lenses and move lights little bits at a time. :)

Yesterday I got pretty lucky to have my dog, Bono, posed like a pro with some great light coming in a east-end window. I know you were expecting me to start talking about a sister or a cousin that I just got a picture of, but if you’ve tinkered with pet photography you know it can be tough with very energetic little animals, and that is often the case with Bono. I had just enough time before Bono got antsy to capture an image of him that I really like.

It’s really rewarding to have a picture of someone close to you that you really enjoy when you see it, and it’s always a great memory when you see your picture and remember grabbing a camera on the spur of a moment to get a shot while it lasted.
